As an Australian, I grew up surrounded by family, food and fun times. Almost every event had some type of bbq food as part of the celebration. Adding to this we would usually eat outdoors, as the Australian government provide free bbqs at the beaches and parks.
I feel that I lived a typical Australian lifestyle through my teens. I worked as a lifeguard and a gym instructor. Any spare time I had was with my mates bodyboarding till the sun went down. I did not have a care in the world until I realised I was becoming an adult.
Soon enough my future wife Sophie and I found ourselves working in The Outback in the mining industry. We would work in extreme heat for 28 days onsite and 6 days back in Perth. After 2.5 years of Fly in Fly Out we had career changes. Sophie worked in Mental Health and I sold real estate throughout Australia.
That dream Australian lifestyle was not so simple anymore.
